What is archaeology?
We are seeking the assistance of K-12 educators and classrooms to pilot the beta version of a game developed by the GLMW FIRST® LEGO® League team. Your feedback is essential for helping us fully develop this game for use in classrooms in the future, and broadening the impact of the efforts of these young scholars.
The data collected here will also be used by the students when they present at the invitation-only next leg of the competition this Spring.
Background
This interactive, educational game was developed by the Good Legos Mine Wonders FIRST® LEGO® League team for the 2025 competition season. FIRST® LEGO® League is a program that engages young people in various STEM topics and encourages them to develop innovative solutions. Part of the challenge involves the team identifying a real-world problem relevant to that year’s theme and designing a solution that the team then presents to a panel of judges. For 2025, the theme for the FIRST® LEGO® League teams was titled “Unearthed,” and asked teams to explore the field of archaeology.
The Good Legos Mine Wonders team identified public awareness and engagement as a significant problem in archaeology and designed the Dig Deep Archaeology Game as a way to promote knowledge of the discipline in K-12 classrooms through a fun, easily-accessible format.
SASSAk12 first became involved in the FIRST® LEGO® League 2025 challenge by providing expert insight and feedback to a number of different local teams. In support of these students and their efforts, SASSAk12 board members attended the 2025 Minnesota state tournament where they discovered the GLMW team and their archaeology game. GLMW’s public engagement effort aligns closely with the SASSAk12’s mission, so we have partnered with GLMW to promote their initiative and help facilitate making a lasting impact with their creation.
In this game we ask questions like…
What problems is the field of archaeology facing, and what can you do about them?
Why is archaeology important?
